Biography

Yvonne Ferguson is a talented portrait artist with a focus on the African Diaspora. Born in Fort Walton Beach, FL and raised in Gainesville, FL, where her mother attended the University of Florida. As the daughter of an activist & community builder she spent much of her childhood attending campus lectures, attending campus/city protests, and participating in community drives and outreach programs. This early exposure to people from various walks of life instilled a deep sense of empathy and pride in the strength of diversity in culture, as well as thought. 

Yvonne’s work is influenced by notable political, historical, sociological and creative figures in Black american history. She is able to capture the emotional essence of her subjects by hyperfocusing on saturation, shadows & highlights in a way that feels both captivating & genuine. Over the years Yvonne has evolved from a self-taught artist creating work at home to live painting at various events, competing in competitions, and exhibiting in galleries. 

Yvonne is committed to the practice of Sankofa, as an attempt to preserve Black history despite the current climate of policy change & erasure of marginalized experiences. She is an artist that strives to create with intention, empathy, integrity, and a commitment to achieving creative excellence.
